Ellicott Development is proposing a top-to-bottom renovation of the former Hens & Kelly Department Store at 478 Main Street. The developer is planning to convert office space on the top floors to 28 apartments and undertaking significant façade changes including bringing windows back to the first two floors of the building. The Army Corps will relocate its headquarters and 250 employees to 55,000 square feet of space on the third, fourth and fifth floors. Located at 478 Main St., at the southwest corner of West Mohawk Street, the vacant building was designed by architects Bley and Lyman, and constructed from 1922 to 1925. Exterior materials will include glass-fiber reinforced concrete, brick, stamped metal panels and metal canopies and existing block, according to diagrams from architecture firm Carmina Wood Morris. Fox said the developer is working with the State Historic Preservation Office on the $12.5 million project, which could qualify the venture for state and federal historic tax credits. "This project represents another in a long list of historic rehabilitations we've undertaken in downtown Buffalo," Fox said. "Through this project, we'll reactivate a significant property in the heart of downtown, contributing to a critical mass that will further rejuvenate the downtown core." Hen House is owned and operated by Sal Andolina, a passionate chef who has spent years perfecting the recipe for the perfect spicy breading and tangy sauce.
We also found The Mac Wrap – filled with chopped chicken, mac-n-cheese, cheese, bacon and jalapenos — was a meal in every bite, and a stoner’s dream. Sal says the new location will have some special sandwiches that get rolled out occasionally, but you should expect the menu to mostly remain the same. There are also plans to expand into late-night hours on Fridays and Saturdays.

Hen House also operates kitchen space at Dome Stadium in the City of Tonawanda, but Andolina believes that the new location on Hertel Avenue will be perfect to bring it's celebrated Nashville Hot Chicken to the masses. There is a new restaurant coming to the area that plans to spice up the local food scene. The only way to walk out of a salon with a permanent and a handful of S&H Green Stamps was by stopping at one of the four Hens & Kelly salons. Coupled with prior grants, the company has now provided more than $2.5 million for 15 regional projects since September. Pending approvals, which the developer hopes to obtain this summer, construction would start by early fall, with completion expected 12 months later.
